Highlights from Current Posse Scholars

Home and Hub for Students

Portlock Black Cultural Center is seen as a space of inclusion and belonging. The home is named after the former academic dean, David A. Portlock. It serves as a educational and social space for many students, including Posse scholars. Some of the following Posse scholars have lived in newly moved and renovated Portlock: Johanna Douge '27 (NY Posse 22), Justin Morales '26 (NY Posse 21), Paris Francis '26 (NY Posse 21), Ryan Rodriguez '25 (NY Posse 20), Jose Bencosme Peña '24 (NY Posse 19), and Queston Bell '23 (DC Posse 14).

Belonging through Leadership

Naomi Yilma '26 (DC Posse 17) served as the co-president of the Association of Black Collegians (ABC) alongside Ariana Welch '26. ABC is a student-led organization that promotes and fosters spaces where Back students of Lafayette College experience cultural, intellectual, and social growth. Through discussions, events, and general body meetings, ABC portrays its commitment to promoting liberation of Black students at Lafayette with great leaders.

Multiculturalism in Fraternity and Sorority Life at Lafayette

Justin Morales '26 (NY Posse 21) and Jaylene Martinez '26 are the presidents of two out of thirteen Greek letter organizations on Lafayette's campus. Morales is a brother of the Nu Chapter of Phi Sigma Chi Multicultural Fraternity, Incorporated and Martinez is a sister of the Huitaca Chapter of Mu Sigma Upsilon Sorority, Incorporated. Through their respective organizations, they have been leaders in showcasing what multiculturalism looks like on Lafayette's campus, in Fraternity and Sorority Life, and within the greater communities.
